My Story

Bienvenid@s! I'm Emmanuel Ramírez, a first-gen Latino y Chicano student navigating the complex landscape of being a Latino in STEM. Living life through purpose, passion, and pride, it has been a difficult journey navigating two cultures. It made spaces feel inhospitable, dreams seem unattainable, and expectations seems insurmountable. Even then, it is thanks to the friends, family, mentors, educators, and mis niños (students) that I have been able to continue writing my story in the face of adversity.My journey wasn't linear though. It has been a struggle getting to where I am now. Whether it be struggling with my mental health since I was a little kid or navigating being an adult as a child as I saw ICE ravish my community causing my radicalization and yearning for knowledge in order to protect my community. If it weren't for this I wouldn't have a profound sense of gratitude for the sacrifices my ancestors and family made as they established the groundwork for where I am today.Building bridges and creating environments that feel like home for everyone—especially unrepresented and marginalized communities—are goals I pursue through my work. To build safe spaces and homes for all to rest in and be seen and loved for who they are.Now I advocate for accessible resources to empower Latinos in pursuing higher education. My work is rooted in a dream where mi gente can pursue "El Sueño Americano" without fear of being separated from their families. While this path hasn't been easy, I believe NADA es imposible para nosotros. By sharing my journey, I hope to inspire you to recognize that we can create a better future for our people and everyone else.My commitment to la comunidad extends beyond personal growth as I strive to raise awareness and educate others about the importance of mental health and the need for just policies. Volunteering and affiliating with various organizations, I want to demonstrate el amor que tengo para nuestra comunidad and inspire others to join our collective mission.While my ambition and optimism seem overzealous to some, dreaming big and starting now are essential steps towards creating lasting change. I am confident that, con el orgullo que tenemos de ser Latino, we can make a difference in this world one day at a time.
